Based on the teachings of Tolly Burkan, founding father of The Firewalking Center and the firewalking movement in North America, Rick and Kelly’s seminar included many exercises designed specifically to teach people to pay attention, overcome fears, Let It Be Easy, expect the best and go for it!
We are the creators of our own reality. Our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs create our experience and therefore our reality. The day you begin to pay attention, 100%, and take conscious control of your thoughts is the day you declare personal freedom and begin mastering this experience we call life. It’s also the day you stop blaming outside forces and being a victim of life, but rather a lover of life and all it’s challenges! The Buddha put it this way: “All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think, we become.”
Fear, or as we like to call it: False Evidence Appearing Real, can often hold us back from many things in life. We tend to play the “What If” game in our heads. Do any of these sound familiar: “what if I fail, what if I am not good enough, what if he or she doesn’t love me, what if my parents don’t approve? Obviously, this is just the short list of fears that play out in our thoughts. It is unfortunate that people tend to focus most passionately on what they don’t want: we don’t want to fail, we don’t want to appear foolish, we don’t want a broken heart or to disappoint our parents. However, the Laws of Attraction state that “like attracts like” and therefore our personal universe will always grant our greatest passions. So, if you focusing on positive things, positive things will happen and if you focus on the negative, then guess what, negative things will most likely happen. So, it is quite simple: PAY ATTENTION to your thoughts and keep them positive, no matter the circumstances. Our challenges in life, often become our greatest gifts.
Once you learn to pay attention and master your thoughts, everything in life becomes easier. You learn to Let It Be Easy, and not sweat the small stuff. You learn to believe that everything happens for the greater good, at just the right time, and although you may not understand why now, you have faith that the universe will sort it all out in due time. Think of this story of the farmer who said “Maybe”:
There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. “Such bad luck,” they said sympathetically. “Maybe,” the farmer replied.
The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. “How wonderful,” the neighbors exclaimed. “Maybe,” replied the old man.
The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune. “Maybe,” answered the farmer.
The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son’s leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out. “Maybe,” said the farmer.
If knowing that we create our own realities, with our thoughts, and fear is only false evidence appearing real, why would you do anything other than expect the best and go for it? Henry Ford put it best when he said , “Whether you think you can, or whether you think you can’t, you are probably right.” Believe in yourself as well as the power and nature of the universe and get out there and go for it!
